The Ice Hotel, Quebec

If you are ready to experience something different, something unique, then you have to step into a magical land of ice and snow and visit one of the world's "coolest" hotel, the Ice Hotel also known as Hotel de Glace in Quebec City, Canada. It is located about 30 minutes drive from Quebec City and is an absolute must if you are visiting Quebec City during the winter time.

The Ice Hotel is opened only from January until April and is rebuilt every year. Construction is starting each November and is taking 6-8 weeks to build this architectural winter wonder made entirely out of ice and snow. Inspiration is definitely not lacking in this magical snow structure and now in its 9th year, design is developing in size and style every year, and hotel is becoming more and more extravagant.

In addition to the 36 rooms and theme suites, the hotel has an art gallery, two exhibit rooms, stunning Ice Chapel, functional fireplaces, hot tubs, and of course the famous Absolut Ice Bar where you can have a drink "in the rock". In order to keep blood flowing, night entertainment with energy dancing is highly recommended.

If you are brave enough and not afraid of cold you may decide to spend a night in this gigantic, extravagant igloo unique in North America.

I must admit that cold weather and I are not best friends, as such only tour was an option. Highlight of the tour was having a cocktail drink from one of the ice glasses while warming up close to the fireplace. As a souvenir you can take your ice glass home but don’t forget to put it in the freezer.

If touring through this magical white palace was not enough you can enjoy in exiting outdoor activities like snowmobiling or dog sledding.

Visiting the Ice Hotel was a really “cool” experience and something to remember, especially when you know that with the first sign of spring this architectural wonder is destined to disappear. So, hurry up or you will have to wait for another winter to see a brand new Ice Hotel, however with global warming you might miss your opportunity.

Happy Travelling!
